HC Deb 21 January 1943 vol 386 c322W
Mr. Hogg

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether his attention has been drawn to the disparity existing between the sums payable to householders for billeting Civil Service workers and for billeting members of the Armed Forces; and whether he will take steps to put an end to such disparity?

Mr. Assheton

Any disparity between the payments made to householders billeting civil servants and those made to householders billeting members of the Forces is mainly accounted for by the fact that the payments cover different items. The billeted civil servant is provided with accommodation and only two meals a day. For a similar service payments made for the billeted soldier, sailor or airman are not greater and may be less. In so far as greater payments are sometimes made for billeted soldiers, sailors and airmen, it is because additional services are being provided.
