HL Deb 25 February 1943 vol 126 c356WA
LORD MARLEY

asked His Majesty's Government, whether it has now been decided to publish a Ministry of Labour and National Service Memorandum for the information of local authorities, employers, trades unions, retailers and others, on their proposals for facilities for shopping for women workers in industry.

LORD SNELL

Experience, of which there has now been a great deal, indicates that the best methods or combinations of methods of meeting shopping difficulties are best explored locally, having regard to local circumstances and there is a well-recognized procedure for getting this done. The Ministry of Labour have already issued a great deal of information on the subject and do not consider that publication of a further memorandum containing specific proposals as to how the facilities should be afforded would be an appropriate or really helpful step.
