HC Deb 25 February 1943 vol 387 c316W
Mr. Astor

asked the Postmaster-General whether there is normally a serious congestion on the telegraphic facilities between the Middle East and England; and what is the usual delay on private messages?

Mr. Grimston

There is not normally serious congestion on the telegraph facilities between the Middle East and England. The transmission time for private messages to and from members of the Forces varies according to the location in the Middle East of the addressee or sender. For units near the base the overall time should not be more than four or five days.
