HC Deb 25 February 1943 vol 387 cc311-2W
Sir R. Gower

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works what annual revenue is derived from historic ruins or remains to visit which fees are charged by the State?

Mr. Hicks

The receipts for the financial year ending 31st March, 1942, from ancient monuments and historic buildings were £7,500. Some of these monuments are at present closed to the public. In addition, there are Royal Palaces such as Hampton Court and the Palace of Holy-rood House, for which entrance fees amounting to £2,800 were received.
