§ Mr. Malcolm MacMillanasked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether, in recognition of the high proportionate contribution of the Western Isles to the manpower of the naval services, and the close traditional associations between the Hebrides and the Royal Navy, he will consider naming a class of His Majesty's ships by Hebridean island names?
§ Captain PilkingtonI am glad to have this opportunity of paying a tribute to the contribution which the Scottish Isles have made to the manning of the Royal Navy, and to the gallant service which their men have given. I am also glad to inform the hon. Member that a large class of H.M. Trawlers is already named after the Scottish Isles, and these include the names of all the Hebridean Islands which are unlikely to be confused with the names of others of H.M. Ships.
