HC Deb 17 February 1943 vol 386 c1746W
Mr. Liddall

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works whether he has considered a letter, dated 4th February, from the town clerk of Lincoln, in regard to the removal of unnecessary railings and gates at the Judge's Lodgings, Castle Square, Lincoln, and the Lindsey County Council offices, Lincoln; and what action he now proposes to take in view of the Lincoln City Council's strong protest against these railings and gates being allowed to remain?

Mr. Hicks

The answer to the first part is in the affirmative and a reply will be sent to the town clerk of Lincoln as soon as possible. As regards the railings and gates to the Judge's Lodgings, it is considered that they should be retained to ensure the privacy of the Judge in the execution of his office. The retention of the railings to the offices of the Lindsey County Council, which are used as a Civil Defence station, was agreed to locally at the request of the Regional Commissioner. I am causing further inquiry to be made into the need to retain these railings.
