HC Deb 17 February 1943 vol 386 c1748W
Mr. Sorensen

asked the Home Secretary whether he is satisfied that medical examination and treatment of prisoners is being efficiently carried out, particularly in reference to the incidence of venereal disease?

Mr. Peake

Yes, Sir, but if my hon. Friend has information which leads him to think that there is some defect in the arrangements, I shall be glad to receive and consider it. As regards treatment, it must be remembered that most prison sentences are short and that the treatment which can be given to a prisoner suffering from venereal disease may be limited by the length of the sentence.
