HC Deb 16 February 1943 vol 386 cc1610-1W
Mr. Erskine-Hill

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he is aware that officers of the Royal Air Force have appeared on public platforms in support of the Common Wealth candidate at the Northern Midlothian by-election; whether the King's Regulations relating to personnel taking part in political meetings have been changed; and, if not, whether he will take steps to see that the Regulations are observed?

Captain Balfour

The answer to the first part of the Question is "No, Sir." If my hon. and learned Friend, will let me have particulars, I will have inquiries made. As regards the second part, the regulations which forbid officers and men of the R.A.F. to take an active part in the affairs of any political organisation or party have only been relaxed in the case of Members of Parliament and of candidates for Parliament. As regards the third part, the attention of all concerned is again being drawn to the regulations on this subject.
