HC Deb 11 February 1943 vol 386 c1461W
Major Thornton-Kemsley

asked the Secretary of State for War whether facilities are available for former Army commanders or members of the Army Council who have been retired upon reaching the age limit to have access to secret and confidential documents about matters upon which they may be experts, so that the benefit of their experience and advice may not be lost to the country?

Sir J. Grigg

If a retired Army officer is employed by a Government Department as a member of a committee or to write a book on a subject on which he became an expert before retirement, he is allowed access to such official documents as may be necessary to enable him to carry out his duties.
