HC Deb 10 February 1943 vol 386 cc1331-2W
Mr. Purbrick

asked the Minister of Health the effect of pasteurisation on the vitamins of milk; at what temperature are these vitamins adversely affected and how?

Mr. E. Brown

I am advised that pasteurisation causes no loss of vitamins A and D; that the amount of Vitamin B1 destroyed is too small to be detected by the usual methods of analysis; that the loss of Vitamin C, which is present in milk only in small quantities is negligible, and is no greater than would result in raw milk exposed to sunshine for a few minutes before delivery; and that the effect on Vitamin E, which is also present only in small quantities, is not known.
