HC Deb 04 February 1943 vol 386 cc1074-5W
Lieut.-Colonel Macnamara

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, to enable holiday-makers anxious to help with the 1943 harvest to make their plans in advance, he will compile a register of farms on which such assistance would be welcomed and due provision made for the helpers?

Mr. Hudson

In view of the shortage of accommodation and of domestic help on farms, it is not generally practicable to arrange for holiday-makers to be taken into farm houses even in return for help with the harvests. Those who can should make their own arrangements about holiday accommodation, and then offer their help locally; but I expect that a number of county war agricultural executive committees will be setting up special working camps to which holiday-makers can go, and I hope to be able to publish particulars of them later on.
