HC Deb 03 February 1943 vol 386 cc905-6W
Mr. Wootton-Davies

asked the Minister of Supply whether he is aware that since he eliminated the use of collapsible tubes for hygienic or medical commodities the industries concerned are now largely employing glass pots which entail increased weight in transport and greater liability to breakage; and whether he will issue further regulations on the subject?

Sir A. Duncan

Owing to the need for effecting economies in tin and lead, the use of metal collapsible tubes has been prohibited for the packing of commodities, including hygienic and medical goods, for which an alternative type of container using less scarce materials can be provided. I have no reason to suppose that the disadvantages of glass containers are serious.
