HC Deb 02 February 1943 vol 386 c757W
Mr. Mort

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, to allay the anxiety of relatives and in view of a broadcast made from Java by Group-Captain Bishop, in which he stated that the prisoners of war in the hands of the Japanese were all well, he can make a statement giving the latest information on the matter?

Sir J. Grigg

Some lists of prisoners of war in camps in Java are now being received. So far the names represent only a small proportion of those last heard of in the Dutch East Indies, and are mostly of Royal Air Force personnel. The next-of-kin are being informed.
