HC Deb 17 December 1943 vol 395 cc1822-3W
Lieut.-Colonel Thornton-Kemsley

asked the Secretary of State for War what provision was made for the payment of gratuities to non-Regular officers during the war of 1914–18; and whether it is proposed to amend the Royal Warrant for pay, &c., to provide for the payment of similar gratuities to non-Regular officers employed during the present war in order to capitalise the element which is deducted from all officers' pay in respect of retiring pensions, for which only Regular officers are eligible?

Sir J. Grigg

The rates of gratuity granted in the last war were set out in a reply given to the hon. Member for Bassetlaw (Mr. Bellenger) on 17th February, 1942, of which I am sending my hon. and gallant Friend a copy. I regret that the time has not yet come for a statement to be made on the points raised in the last part of my hon. and gallant Friend's Question.
