HC Deb 17 December 1943 vol 395 c1828W
Mr. Jackson

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that it takes up to three months to get repairs done to children's shoes in some areas; and whether he can speed up this service?

Mr. Dalton

My information is that the average time taken to repair shoes is between two and three weeks. A waiting period of three months is quite exceptional and could only be due to a local shortage of the necessary skilled labour. My regional directors of footwear repairs investigate such cases and do what they can to help. I am glad to find that in many districts priority is given in cases of special need to the repair of children's footwear.
