HC Deb 08 December 1943 vol 395 c986W
Mr. Gallacher

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies to what extent there is a shortage of foodstuffs in Sierra Leone?

Colonel Stanley

The Governor informs me that there is now no shortage of foodstuffs in Sierra Leone. For a short period last summer there was insufficient rice in the area round Freetown for the big concentration of people caused by the Services and labour employed on essential work. The shortage was met by imports of rice and by supplementing the rice issue with other foodstuffs.
