Mr. Rostron Duckworthasked the Minister of Food whether, as farthings are in short supply, he will so far as possible, avoid fixing prices in values of this coin?
§ Mr. MabaneI am not aware that traders have experienced any difficulty in obtaining adequate supplies of farthings from the banks. The maximum prices permitted under Ministry of Food orders only make use of farthings in those cases where avoiding the use of a farthing would unjustifiably reduce the trader's remuneration or, alternatively, would result in an unduly high price to the consumer. Indeed, in certain cases where maximum prices have been laid down covering a whole range of grades and quantities, compensatory adjustments have been introduced in order to reduce the number of prices in which a farthing occurs.
