§ Sir R. Glynasked the Secretary of State for Air what is the total number of officers and airmen of the R.A.F. in Japanese hands; what information has, so far been received affecting how many 799W officers and airmen; and what steps the Air Ministry have taken to obtain confirmation of such information as has been received and to obtain further information?
§ Sir A. SinclairFull details of Royal Air Force personnel held by the Japanese are still not available but reports so far received show that 323 officers and 4,483 airmen are recorded as prisoners of war. These figures are based partly on notifications received through the International Red Cross and partly on unofficial notifications, including postcards, received by next-of-kin. The only other information received concerns the deaths of 302 officers and airmen. Strong representations have been made through the Protecting Power about the failure of the Japanese Government to furnish complete lists of prisoners of war, but these have so far proved unsuccessful.
