HC Deb 02 December 1943 vol 395 cc532-3W
Mr. Boyce

asked the President of the Board of Trade (1) whether, in order to maintain employment and the standard of living in this country after the war, he will take measures to protect British industries against unfair competition arising from the depreciated currencies of certain other manufacturing countries;

(2) whether, with a view to facilitating the orderly re-establishment of the export trade after the war, he will negotiate with the Governments of other countries regarding the application of spheres of influence to certain industries?

Mr. Johnstone

His Majesty's Government will neglect no measures conducive to the re-establishment of industry and trade and their expansion after the war, but I cannot at this stage give any undertaking with regard to the particular suggestions put forward in my hon. Friend's Questions.
