§ Mr. Loverseedasked the Minister of Food what progress has been made with the provision of mobile canteens for the provision of meals for farm-workers; and whether any restriction is imposed on the service of those already operating under the auspices of county war agricultural executive committees?
§ Mr. MabaneAlthough arrangements have been made in some rural areas for the distribution of hot meals in insulated containers from British Restaurants, the provision of such facilities has not been found generally practicable. Encouragement has therefore been given to the organisation by local authorities, approved voluntary organisations and individuals of schemes for the supply of prepared meals such as pies, snacks and sandwiches to farm workers and other rural residents. For these meals services use is made of such transport facilities as can be arranged locally and special vehicles have not generally been found necessary. I have no information about the use for meals services of vehicles operating, as my hon. Friend suggests, under the auspices of county war agricultural executive committees.
