HC Deb 01 December 1943 vol 395 c371W
Mr. Loverseed

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the daily rate of kit upkeep allowance paid to naval ratings and the percentage by which this has been increased since the outbreak of war?

Mr. Alexander

Kit upkeep allowance is credited to naval ratings at quarterly rates and in advance, and varies with the description of uniform worn.

The present quarterly rates are:

£ s. d.
C.P.O's and P.O.'s 2 10 0
Other men not dressed as seamen 2 8 0
(e.g. artisans, writers and supply ratings, stewards and cooks.)
Men dressed as seamen (namely, seamen and stokers below P.O.) 2 4 6

These rates are approximately 44 per cent., 45 per cent. and 65 per cent. above the rates in force in 1939.
