§ Lieut.-Colonel Acland-Troyteasked the Minister of Agriculture whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that Income Tax is being charged on the £2 ploughing subsidy; and whether, in view of the adverse effect that this will have on his scheme for ploughing up more old pasture, he will either double the subsidy or take other steps to rectify the position?
§ Mr. T. WilliamsI am aware that the £2 per acre ploughing up grant is regarded by the Inland Revenue Department as a receipt of a revenue nature and therefore falls to be included in the computation of profits for taxation purposes, but I cannot agree that the ploughing up of permanent pasture land is being adversely affected thereby.
