HC Deb 05 August 1943 vol 391 c2492W
Mr. Lindsay

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what stage has been reached in the negotiations regarding the wages of young miners?

Major Lloyd George

The question of a national minimum wage for juveniles in the coalmining industry was discussed by the joint negotiating committee under the National Conciliation Scheme on 29th July. Agreement was not reached, however, and the matter has therefore been referred under the provisions of the scheme to the National Reference Tribunal for decision. The two sides of the industry have asked the tribunal to treat the questions referred to them as a matter of urgency.
