HC Deb 05 August 1943 vol 391 cc2497-8W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he will direct that all preliminary work be suspended on the site of a proposed airfield in North Berkshire, the name of which has been sent to him, in view of the proposed destruction of orchards and soft fruit plantations, the demolition of houses, farm buildings and cottages, in spite of an alternate site on flat ground, not subject to flooding, within half a mile of the proposed works being available that will not involve destruction of buildings, etc., and can be prepared in a shorter time; and whether he will agree to a further conference on the site with all the interests concerned at an early date?

Sir A. Sinclair

The hon. Baronet's information as to the respective merits of the two sites does not accord with mine. I am, however, considering the objections which have been raised, and will communicate with the hon. Baronet in due course.
