HC Deb 04 August 1943 vol 391 c2316W
Dr. Summerskill

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food why the consumption of undiluted milk is permitted under the National Milk Scheme, in view of the fact that this milk is obtained from non-tuberculin-tested cows?

Mr. Mabane

The Government's policy for improving the milk supply is stated in Command Paper 6454, and while I appreciate the hon. Member's objective, it would not be practicable to prohibit the distribution of accredited milk under the National Milk Scheme, which is primarily a scheme to enable beneficiaries to obtain the milk they would normally purchase either free or at a reduced price.
