HC Deb 15 April 1943 vol 388 cc1406-7W
Mr. J. Beattie

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the total amount of the contributions, known as Imperial Contributions, which have been paid to this Government by the Government of Northern Ireland under the Government of Ireland Act, 1920, during the period 1922 to 1943; the total amount due to this Government by the Government of Northern Ireland; and the total amount of the moneys for all purposes that has been paid by this Government to the Government of Northern Ireland during this period?

Sir K. Wood

The Imperial Contributions paid by Northern Ireland to the Imperial Exchequer from 1st April, 1922, to 31st March, 1943, total £76,000,000, subject to revision in respect of the last two years. So far as I am aware no substantial sum is due but outstanding from Northern Ireland. The total payments from the Imperial Exchequer to Northern Ireland over the same period amount to £32,000,000, similarly subject to revision, after excluding the residuary share of reserved taxes, land purchase annuities (amounting to about £650,000 a year) under Section 25 of the Government of Ireland Act, 1920, and all payments for agency services.
