HC Deb 14 April 1943 vol 388 c1243W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Home Secretary what is the total strength of the National Fire Service in the United Kingdom, men and women respectively; and how many there are employed on administrative duties?

Mr. H. Morrison

It would be undesirable on security grounds to give the total number of members of the National Fire Service. I may say, however, that less than 2½ per cent. of the National Fire Service in England and Wales, including full-time and part-time personnel, are engaged on administrative duties. The proportion of full-time personnel alone engaged on administrative duties is about 6 per cent.
