HC Deb 14 April 1943 vol 388 c1241W
Sir R. Gower

asked the Postmaster-General the time at which letters must be posted in the Metropolitan area to be delivered by the first post next day in the Home Counties area?

Captain Crookshank

To ensure delivery by the first post anywhere in the Home Counties area, letters should be posted by 10 p.m. in head district areas (12 noon in the rest of the London postal area). Letters posted up to 5.30 p.m. in head districts (4.0–4.36 p.m. in Sub-Districts) also secure delivery by first post next day throughout the Home Counties with very few exceptions.
