Major Lloydasked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that Irish workers imported into Scotland are allowed a free-travel voucher every eight weeks, by which they may travel to the port at which they arrived in this country or to a place not further away than that port, on leave, and that if they return within five days they are also allowed the amount of the return fare; and why Irish workers have this advantage over other workers and the Armed Forces of the Crown with regard to leave and holiday facilities?
§ Mr. TomlinsonI assume my lion. Friend is referring to the facilities granted under the Building and Civil Engineering Industries' Uniformity Agreement to workers employed on Government building and civil engineering contracts at a distance from their homes. The provisions of this agreement apply alike to all workers in these industries and no special advantage is given to Irishmen.
