HC Deb 30 September 1942 vol 383 c795W
Mr. David Adams

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is now prepared to accede to the request of the Jerusalem Bar to recommend to the Inns of Court the extension of the privilege for its members to be called to the English Bar without examination for call and without keeping terms, but upon payment of Bar fees, as without membership of the English Bar those concerned may not act as notaries public, whilst most Government posts in the legal and judicial departments are barred to them; and whether he is aware that the privilege sought extends to the Bar in Northern Rhodesia?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

I am not aware that the Jerusalem Bar has made any such request. The reply to the last part of the Question is in the affirmative.
