asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food what decisions have been reached regarding the price of onions, retail and wholesale; and what organisations were consulted in reaching agreement?

The Order fixing maximum prices for onions' for the 1942 season was made on 31st August and became effective on 4th September. The retail price of onions under the Order is 4¼d. except in Scotland and certain scheduled industrial areas where, to secure wide distribution, the services of a second wholesaler are necessary, and where the retail price is 4½d. The price on a sale by a primary wholesaler is 29s. per cwt.; and on a sale by a secondary wholesaler in the scheduled areas 31s. 4d. per cwt. The proposals for the Order were discussed at a meeting held on 4th August which was attended by representatives of the National Farmers' Union, of the National Federation of Fruit and Potato Trades, and of the Retail Fruit Trade Federation, Limited.
