HC Deb 10 September 1942 vol 383 cc320-1W
Flight-Lieutenant Etherton

asked the Home Secretary why it is proposed to withdraw uniforms issued to many Civil Defence personnel and issue in place thereof Home Guard uniforms with a Civil Defence armlet; why such extravagance was not avoided by the issue of Home Guard armlets to wear with Civil Defence uniforms already issued; whether he will indicate what is to be done with the Civil Defence uniforms to be withdrawn; and the amount of the estimated additional expense to the country to be incurred?

Mr. H. Morrison

The withdrawal of Civil Defence uniforms from personnel who enrol in the Home Guard and receive a khaki uniform has been ordered in the interests of economy. Civil defence uniforms so withdrawn will be re-issued as required to other personnel; the question of additional expense does not therefore arise.
