HC Deb 10 September 1942 vol 383 c326W
Mr. J. Dugdale

asked the Minister of Supply whether any satisfactory zoning arrangements have been made to provide for the allocation of particular areas to scrap-iron collectors, other than local authorities, so that overlapping and waste of labour and petrol may be prevented?

Mr. C. Peat

The activities of scrap merchants, apart from large-scale operations involving dismantling, are in practice confined to the areas where they have treatment and collecting facilities; and it is not considered, in view of the complex nature of the trade, that appreciable economies would be effected by specific zoning.
