HC Deb 10 September 1942 vol 383 cc310-1W
Sir P. Hannon

asked the President of the Board of Education how far the Norwegian boarding school at Drumtochy Castle, the hostel for Polish children at Edinburgh and the education facilities for Belgian and French children at Brixham are under the supervision of the Board; and whether the advice and assistance of the inspectors of the Board are available for these institutions?

Mr. Butler

The Belgian children living at Brixham receive instruction half-time in the local public elementary schools and half-time in halls under -their own teachers, with the assistance of two teachers of English provided by the British Council. The few French children in the area are receiving full-time instruction in the public elementary schools. These arrangements were made in consultation with H.M. Inspector, whose assistance and advice are always available. As regards the Scottish institutions, I would refer my hon. Friend to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland.
