HC Deb 09 September 1942 vol 383 c185W
Captain Ramsay

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many women have been transferred to England against their will for compulsory employment; and whether he will take steps to make work available in Scotland for those who are unwilling to be so transferred to England?

Mr. Johnston

In order to obtain the information for which the hon. and gallant Member asks it would be necessary to make individual inquiry of all the women so transferred. That course would be impracticable. With regard to the second part of the Question, I am in daily contact with my right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour and National Service and with the Ministers in charge of production, and every endeavour is being made to secure for Scotland as much additional work as possible.
