Mr. David Adams

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies what proposals made by the Controller of Welfare and Development in the West Indies have been accepted towards a solution of problems, including unemployment, affecting the respective Colonies; and the expenditure proposed under the respective heads?

I would invite my hon. Friend's attention to the reply to the hon. Member for Dewsbury (Mr. Riley) on 29th July. [OFFICIAL REPORT, Vol. 382, cols. 498–9.] The number of schemes indicated in that reply has been increased to 94 up to 7th September, 1942, the location of the additional 11 schemes being:

British Guiana 1
Jamaica 7
St. Lucia 1
Trinidad 1
Virgin Islands 1

These additional schemes fell into the following categories:
