HC Deb 09 September 1942 vol 383 c171W
Mr. Parker

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether it is proposed to limit the number of milk-distributors serving a single street; and what progress is being made generally in the rationalisation of the collection and distribution of milk?

Mr. Mabane

The local schemes now being prepared for the rationalisation of retail distribution have as their object the saving of man power and transport. They will limit the number of milk distributors serving the same street or the same area to the minimum number consistent with the maintenance of a reasonable war-time service to consumers. Schemes for the rationalisation of the collection and wholesale distribution of milk are now being worked out. The scheme for Bristol referred to in the Memorandum on Milk Policy issued in May is now in operation and working successfully.
