HC Deb 09 September 1942 vol 383 c179W
Mr. Channon

asked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been called to the hardships of those who have evacuated their premises in areas which are particularly vulnerable to enemy attack but who nevertheless are still compelled to pay mortgage interest on their property; and whether, in advising these people in the matter of evacuation, he can draw a distinction between those who have commitments of this kind and those who have not?

Miss Wilkinson

I presume that my hon. Friend is referring to the areas which have been declared to be evacuated areas under the Defence (Evacuated Areas) Regulations. These Regulations make special provision in regard to the postponement in such areas during the evacuation period of payment of mortgage interest on unoccupied premises.
