§ Mr. BevinThe total number of women employed part-time in Middlesex factories is not available, but approximately 15,000 part-time women workers have been placed by my Department in these factories. At present, about 2,800 women are known to be available for part-time employment in Middlesex. My hon. Friend will appreciate that part-time employment is essentially work which women wish to do near their homes, and that Middlesex is a large area in some districts of which the demand for part-time workers already exceeds the supply, while in other dormitory districts where there are few or no factories there is a surplus of women available for part-time work.
