HC Deb 08 September 1942 vol 383 c74W
Mr. N. Bower

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what special instructions he has issued to local authorities with regard to economy in fuel; and how he ensures that they are properly observed?

Major Lloyd George

I am considering the issue of a circular to local authorities on fuel economy at the present time. As regards the observance of any instructions issued, I feel sure that I can rely on the loyal co-operation of the local authorities themselves. Local authorities are, of course, subject to the statutory orders and directions of my Department in the same way as private persons.

Captain Plugge

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is considering the utilisation of natural gas as a substitute for, or addition to, the supplies of town gas; and whether he is yet in a position to make a statement on the subject?

Major Lloyd George

The answer to the first part of the Question is in the affirmative. I am afraid I am not yet in a position to make a statement.
