§ Captain Ramsayasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has in his office plans prepared some years ago for the construction of a sea level canal capable of conveying battleships from the Clyde to the Forth; and, if so, will he forward the same to the Minister dealing with post-war planning in order that this scheme may receive serious attention?
Mr. JohnstonThis proposal was the subject of a report by a committee appointed in 1929 by the Minister of Transport. The report was published in August, 1930. As the Minister responsible for post-war planning in Scotland, I shall maintain the closest contact with my right hon. Friend the Minister of War Transport on all proposals for transport development in Scotland.
