HC Deb 08 September 1942 vol 383 c76W
Major Marlowe

asked the Minister of Aircraft Production what are the qualifications required of candidates for enrolment in Air Transport Auxiliary; whether any vacancies exist; and whether applications are still invited from suitable applicants?

Colonel Llewellin

The qualifications vary with the duties to be undertaken, a high standard of physical as well as of mental fitness being especially necessary in the case of pilots. There are a limited number of vacancies and applications from suitable candidates are invited.

Major Marlowe

asked the Minister of Aircraft Production how many applicants for enrolment in Air Transport Auxiliary who have passed their flight test have not been given employment as ferry pilots?

Colonel Llewellin

Of 1,500 selected for interview, flight test and medical examination, approximately 400 have been rejected. Without a considerable amount of work it is impossible to say how many who passed their flight test were rejected on other grounds.
