HC Deb 22 October 1942 vol 383 c2143W
Mr. Stokes

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he will take such steps as may be required to organise economy committees in every Department of State, freely elected by the persons employed in the respective Departments, whose function shall be to make recommendations regarding the efficient administration of the Department, the maximum economy of labour and the reduction in the quantity of paper consumed in forms and elsewhere?

Captain Crookshank

Action has already been taken in a variety of ways to deal with the matters to which my hon. Friend refers. They are, however, primarily the responsibility of individual Ministers and as regards the composition of any departmental committees I would refer him to the reply given by my right hon. Friend to the hon. Member for Rugby (Mr. W. Brown) on 9th September.
