HC Deb 22 October 1942 vol 383 c2113W
Mr. Mainwaring

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that the Barry Engineering Firm, Pontypridd, have been making irregular payment of wages to employees; whether the firm is directly or indirectly concerned with Government contracts; and will he, pending complete satisfaction upon the firm's ability to pay wages when due, refrain from supplying them with any further labour?

Mr. McCorquodale

Inquiries have been made and I understand that there have been difficulties connected with payment of wages by this firm. I have no detailed information about the firm's contracts. The firm is not scheduled under the Essential Work Order and until my right hon. Friend is assured that the position is satisfactory the Department will take no steps to supply labour to the firm.
