HC Deb 21 October 1942 vol 383 c1988W
Mr. Lipson

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether, in allowing petrol ration to a civilian motor-car, any regard is paid to the horse-power, or whether the purpose for which the motor-car is used is the sole consideration?

Mr. Lloyd

The purpose for which the car is to be used is the criterion for deciding whether an allowance should be granted. The horse-power is considered in deciding the number of gallons required for the approved purpose on a scale which discriminates against cars of high horsepower. This discrimination will be intensified as from 1st December.
