HC Deb 21 October 1942 vol 383 c1987W
Professor Savory

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether, in view of the award by the judge at the Strabane Quarter Sessions of £1,925 and £1,750, respectively, to the widows and children of constables James Laird and Samuel Hamilton, which must fall on the county of Tyrone, he will reclaim these amounts from the Government of Eire, as the assassins came from and escaped into Eire; and whether he will inquire from the Government of Eire what efforts they have made for the arrest of the murderers?

Mr. Emrys-Evans

The answer to both parts of the Question is in the negative. I would add that the attack took place during the blackout, and that I have received no evidence in support of the statement of the hon. Member that the murderers in this case came from or escaped into Eire.
