HC Deb 15 October 1942 vol 383 c1782W
Major Woolley

asked the Minister of Supply whether he will make it clear that the inclusion of Mirfield in the list of those local authorities who had made a "nil" or negligible return of bone collections, as circulated on 6th August, was in no way intended as a condemnation of Mirfield urban district council; and whether he is aware that this authority had previously made arrangements for the collection of bones?

Mr. Peat

As my right hon. Friend has already stated, the circulation of the list in the OFFICIAL REPORT of 6th August was not intended as a general condemnation of the local authorities named therein. The list was of local authorities who had made either "nil" or negligible returns for bones, and it was made clear that special inquiry was being made in those cases. It now appears that the Mirfield urban district council had made arrangements for the collection of bones but had not recorded in their salvage returns the amounts they had collected.
