HC Deb 14 October 1942 vol 383 c1654W
Mr. David Adams

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether it is intended to utilise part of the £1,000,000 loan recently floated by the Government of Jamaica to provide relief for unemployment, food shortage, &c, upon engineering schemes; and will he give details and the numbers likely to be employed?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

Yes, Sir. Far-reaching plans are in hand for the relief of unemployment in Jamaica by various development schemes. These will partly be financed by the loan referred to. But I cannot at this stage give details of the schemes or the numbers likely to be employed on them.
