HC Deb 14 October 1942 vol 383 cc1641-2W
Mr. Mort

asked the Minister of Labour the number of tinplate and steel works where canteens are established; what proportion of these supply hot meals; and the number of such works where no canteen facilities exist?

Mr. McCorquodale

Canteens are known to exist in 115 tinplate or steel works in which more than 250 persons are employed; 93 of these supply hot meals in the full sense of the term and at least 14 others supply hot food, sandwiches and hot drinks. The number of such establishments without canteen facilities is 10. Some of these have messrooms with facilities for warming food and boiling water and in four of the cases canteens are in course of construction. Detailed information about the establishments employing less than 250 persons is not readily available.
