HC Deb 14 October 1942 vol 383 c1649W
Mr. Leach

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether any attempt was made by the Glasgow sanitary authority to ascertain the vaccinal condition of the electrical engineer who was found to be suffering from confluent smallpox when removed to hospital from a steamer at Glasgow, on the 29th May last, by reference to his relatives or to the official primary vaccination records; and, if not, will he cause such inquiries to be made?

Mr. Johnston

This patient was too ill to be questioned, and the vaccination marks, if any, could not be seen because of the rash. His companions stated that he had never been vaccinated. It was subsequently ascertained that the patient's relatives are in Australia and, in present circumstances, the difficulty of getting speedy inquiries through to them there would be very great.
